Before he started acting in Hollywood, Ben spent several years in the theater. After leaving for the University of California, he starred in The House of Blue Leaves. Ben first appeared on the big screen in the movie Stephen Spielberg's Empire of the Sun in 1987. After that he made an MTV director's attempt.
